Since India is aggressive in bring revolution as a part of Digital India, almost everything is turning into the digitalization. There was a time when people used to wait for a long time to watch movies and films. However, tradition has changed now to films and web-series. The over-the-top (OTT) platforms in India, be it Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney Hotstar Plus, Alt Balaji, or MX Player, are attracting a lot of people.
The films used to go through a censor board before hitting the theatres but the OTT Platforms in India brought a lot of exemption from it. There are so many films, web-series, shows, etc on Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney Hotstar Plus, Alt Balaji, MX Player, among others.
With over 40 OTT platforms in India, a huge number of audiences are opting to watch content online. In 2018, the OTT market in India was worth over Rs 2150 crore (Rs 21.5 billion, US $303 million as of 2018).
In 2019, it witnessed a sharp hike to Rs 35 billion. The video streaming industry in India was set to be valued by INR 11.97K crore by 2023. This growth is expected to cross 735 million by 2021 with more than 73 percent of them consuming content in the Indian regional languages.
According to the report, the Indian subscribers spend almost 20-25 minutes on an average on various OTT platforms in India.
An over-the-top (OTT media service) is a streaming service offered directly to the audience via the Internet. The OTT bypasses cable, broadcast, and satellite television platforms, the companies that act as a controller or distributor of such content.
The OTT platforms are also used to describe no-carrier cellphones, where all the communications are charged as data, that avoid the monopolistic competition, or applications for phones that transmit data in this manner, including those that replace other call methods and update software, a report said.
